Uttryck Article Competition | Uttryck | fredag, 29. december 2017

Uttryck is proud to announce this year’s article competition!

With the prompt “What is the biggest challenge we will **** in 2018?” we ask you to use your imagination, get your ideas on paper and write an inspiring piece predicting the future. This can be in any category, as long as it relates to foreign affairs, and creativity is rewarded!

Are you up to the challenge?

The rules are simple: write a maximum of 800 words in either English or Swedish (if you write in English please refrain from using contractions). Make it an article you would be proud of having published online. Send your finished article to webbredaktionen@ufuppsala.se by December 29th at the latest.

You must also be a member of UF (if you are not, contact us and we will make it happen)!

After the deadline, three (yes, three!) winners will be selected by a jury consisting of Uttryck editors and our president to attend a star-studded dinner with established authors and journalists from around the country. This will be the chance for you as an aspiring writer to ask questions, take part in lively discussions, make wonderful connections and perhaps get you started on your journey to become an established writer yourself.

If you do not make it into the top three, do not fret! Your article will, upon request, be published on uttryckmagazine.com for everyone to read.

We are looking forward to reading every single one of your articles. Good luck!
  • Our fourth dinner guest is no other than Ingrid Carlberg! She is an award-winning author and journalist, best known for her work about the life and destiny of Raoul Wallenberg which was also awarded the August Price for best work of nonfiction in 2012. “Pillret”, an informative book about antidepressants earned her an honorary doctorate in medicine here at Uppsala University. Additionally, she also writes political pieces for DN, which we would link to if you didn’t have to pay for reading DN online… Several of her books are available at the library here! You can read about book one here: http://www.litteraturmagazinet.se/ingrid-carlberg/-det-star-ett-rum-har-och-vantar-pa-dig--berattelsen-om-raoul-wallenberg And book two here: https://www.sydsvenskan.se/2008-03-30/pillret-en-berattelse-om-depressioner-och-doktorer-forskare-och-freud-mannisk
  • The next person to join our dinner is Staffan Thulin! He has recently co-authored the book “Talskrivarna: om retoriken i politiken” in which the history of the speechwriters of Swedish politicians as well as some international ones is recounted. He has experience as a political journalist for TT as well as the magazine Riksdag & Departement. Here is a short presentation of the book: http://www.carlssonbokforlag.se/produkt/talskrivarna/ This book can also be borrowed at the Karin Boye library in campus Engelska Parken!
  • We would like to present our second dinner guest: Tomas Lappalainen! Tomas has authored several books such as “Maffia”, “Italien”, and “Världens första medborgare: om statens uppkomst i det antika Grekland”, whereof the two first ones are available at a cheap price at Studentbokhandeln! He is one of Sweden’s top Italy experts. Here is one long book review of his newest book: http://www.dalademokraten.se/kultur/bocker/homeros-en-ledare-for-hamnd-och-maffiakulturen And here is a shorter one: https://www.expressen.se/kultur/odysseus-ar-kusin-med-don-corleone/ Definitely worth a read in preparation for the dinner!
  • We are proud to announce our first honored dinner guest: Patrik Oksanen! When he is not currently working as Hudiksvalls Tidning’s political editor, he writes editorials, tweets about European, Swedish and security politics, and records podcasts about crises, catastrophes, and prepping. Patrik has years of experience in journalism including being SVT’s first EU-correspondent in Brussels, and holds editor posts at several news outlets around the country.
